Short-haired bumblebee nests in the UK for the first time in 25 years

The Short-haired bumblebee reintroduction project has been boosted by the discovery of several worker bees, following the introduction of 50 queens of that species earlier this year.

The fact that workers have been seen proves that at least one of these queens has successfully nested, which is a major step in the reintroduction of the Short-haired bumblebee, Bombus subterraneus. Bumblebee Conservation Trust has partnered with RSPB, Hymettus and Natural England to help reintroduce the species, which was last seen in the UK in 1988.
