So I found a bumblebee in my garden today, head-down in the grass and looking very sorry for herself. I picked her up, brought her into the warm house and gave her some honey.
She face-planted into the honey and started licking it up, and she started wriggling so I thought she was getting stronger.
But then she started flopping over onto her side and onto her back, and rolling over and just generally acting uncoordinated, almost as if she was drunk. She kept rolling into the honey, and now she’s really coated in honey. She is definitely stronger, she’s wriggling and buzzing, but she can’t seem to stay upright and she seems unable to fly.
Does anyone know what could have caused this effect, and what I can do to help her?
