Evening with Professor Dave Goulson

The Short-haired bumblebee project is pleased to announce an 'Evening with Professor Dave Goulson'.

The event will take place on the 4th July at the home of the Short-haired bumblebee reintroduction - RSPB Dungeness reserve.

The event will begin at 16:30 with a walk around the reserve to view the beautiful wild flower habitat and identify all bumblebees seen. The walk will be led by Prof Dave Goulson and Dr Nikki Gammans (Project Officer of the Short-haired bumblebee project) and will finish at 18:00. The walk costs £10 and we can only accommodate 30 people.

The evening talk begins at 18:30 for one hour and is followed by a cold buffet (from Marks & Spencer) and wine reception. The cost of the evening talk is £15. more...

Insect Festival 2015

Bumblebee Conservation Trust staff and volunteers will be at the Insect Festival in York on Sunday 5th July to talk about bumblebees and how we all can help them.

The event is at Yorkshire Museum Gardens, and there will be lots of fun insect activities happening throughout the day. It is free to attend and you can find out more about it here.

Buzzing About in the University of Leicester Botanic Garden

Flowers need bumbles for pollination;  Bumbles need flowers to provide nectar (energy for flight) and pollen (protein for their developing young);  and Gardeners need both!

Why not join in a basic "hands-on" outdoor session to search for any bumbles foraging among the flowers at the Botanic Garden; identify the "regulars" and find out all about them and the plants that they need......then you will be able to check out those in your own garden.

Bumblebee Safari and activities at Haddo House & Country Park, Aberdeenshire

Join two of our volunteers on a bumblebee safari around Haddo House House and Country Park estate at 12pm. Following the walk, activities will be held in the Pheasantry between 1pm-3pm, to learn about the threats facing bumblebees and what you can do to help.

This event is free, to find out more and confirm your place on the bee walk here.

Beginners ID and survey course, Rye Harbour

Dr Nikki Gammans from the Short-haired bumblebee reintroduction project will be leading a course in basic bumblebee ID and survey techniques. Attendees will learn more about the bumblebee life cycle, what we can all do to help the, and how to identify the common species.

The event will take place at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, from 10.30am-3pm on July 19th 2015, and bookings should be made through Sussex Wildlife Trust.
