I have a nest in an ivy tree that appears to be an old bird nest colonised by bees. Overnight a couple of weeks ago it was suddenly enveloped in gossamer fibres like a spider web. However I don’t think it is a spider’s web. Do bees have the ability to make such fibres? I think they are tree bees. A few days ago I could clearly see capsules which are now increasing. Photo available.
Wax moth infestation?
Thanks Adrian, I think it might be, though the capsules/cells don’t look like anything I have found on wax moths. They look like popcorn. The workers are still busy but at the end of the year I will open up the nest to inspect.
