A query:- Bumbles are said to have"smelly feet” and leave a message for other passing bumbles, that a particular flower has already been visited and not to bother wasting energy. Does anyone know how long it takes for a flower to replenish its nectar following a visit? I was told that flower nectaries fill up overnight [ so good for early morning bumble visitors] but how often can plants top-up the nectaries again during the day? Does nectar stop being produced once the flower has been pollinated? I’ve seen bumbles probing the nectaries even after the flower has fallen off.
Very interesting query urbanbumble-do hope someone has the answers for you as i have wondered this too!
