I read in the recent BBCT magazine that rhododendron was poisonous to honey bees. Are all species poisonous or just a few? I have recently bought a house and am planning the garden. I have inherited 3 rhododendron bushes and am happy to remove them to include more bee friendly plants. I would just like advice here to see if this step would be worth the effort, as they are early flowering I thought maybe they could be beneficial.
Welcome to the forum!
Luckily, most Rhododendron are fine for bumblebees, and only certain species (e.g. R. ponticum) are toxic. If you aren’t sure which species you have in your garden, it would be best to leave them there as they do have a benefit to bees.
