I still have to work for a living so dont have time to watch the bumble bees very much
However my cctv bird cameras are idle until late autumn so thought i’d set a couple up on a fake flower soaked in a nectar solution then ID the bees later.
Any suggestion s as to whether the bees would be attracted to a nectar substitute and what mix should i use
Thanks for any help
Beekeepers use sugar solutions as an emergency feed for honey bees.
The traditional strength for feeding for winter is 2 lb sugar per pint of water = 908 g / 568 g - which is rather strong.
You could halve this and it might be better.
Alternatively, nectar is about 30 - 50% sugar content.
I’ll add more to this later !
