So lucky to see a newly emerged early bumble Queen yesterday feeding on my scabious flowers. Within seconds a tiny male was attached! Queen continued to feed flying with great difficulty from one flower to the next, sometimes falling to floor before struggling back into flight with her passenger!
t regular intervals the Queen would try to dislodge her mate but to no avail. Once the mating was complete the male stayed on the scabious flowers and replenished his energy and the Queen went on her way safely. It was amazing to watch, what a treat.

Congratulations Alibumble !
I’ve seen and have photos of mating with B. lapidarius, but have not seen it with B. pratorum.
I have seen a B. hypnorum mating attempt, and the queen flew off to somewhere quieter, with the male probably attached.

My only other mating viewing was of B. Hypnorum, so i was chuffed. Happy hunting Clive, keep them peeled.
